Teacher Place

Welcome!
Learning Disabilities Worldwide has developed this site for educators who work with individuals with learning disabilities of all ages. At the Teachers' Place you will find information, suggested resources, and ideas for teaching at all levels, including infant/toddler, preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and post-graduate.

Each month the Teachers' Place focuses on a different topic and provides educators with articles, links to websites, resource lists and other helpful information related to the topic. The information is compiled by Joan Sedita, the host of the Teachers' Place, with contributions and suggestions from nationally recognized researchers and educators, including members of the LDW's® Professional Advisory Board.

All visitors to the site have access to the resources posted for the current monthly topic. LDW® members have extended privileges. These include access to additional resources related to each monthly topic, and access to the archives of all previously posted monthly topics. To become a member, click here.

Books: Videos/DVDs:
  • Contemporary Approaches to the Assessment of Children with Learning Disabilities
(Currently this DVD is only available in Greek)
This DVD focuses on the assessment of learning disabilities. In the first part of the DVD, the traditional assessment procedures are discussed and the problems inherent in their use are pinpointed. In the second part, contemporary approaches of assessment are described ("educational problem solving", "responsiveness to intervention") and the method of "Curriculum- Based Measurement" (one of the most dynamic methods of educational data gathering) is presented in detail. Also in this part, application examples of the contemporary assessment approaches are delineated, based on the analysis of the difficulties in reading, writing and mathematics presented by children with learning lisabilities. At the end of the DVD useful references are given.
  • Einstein & Me: Talking About Learning Disabilities
This program is designed for parents, kids, and teachers. In a candid conversation, students reveal what it's like to have a learning disability. Upbeat, informative and optimistic; this video is great for in-service training and parent meetings.
  • Meeting with Success: Ten Tips for a Successful IEP
It's easy to find dozens of documents explaining the IEP process, but an IEP meeting can turn into an adversarial nightmare even if everybody involved understands the "rules and regulations." In this upbeat and optimistic video, you'll observe "real" parents, teachers, administrators, and other specialists as they demonstrate ten tips for meeting with success in this important educational process, developing the Individualized Education Program (IEP). Package includes a booklet written by Dr. Schultz that provides supplementary information about the IEP process.
  • Stop and Go Ahead with Success: An Integrated Approach to Helping Children Develop Social Skills
Friendships are critical for our sense of well being. This video offers practical solutions for teachers and parents on how to address the social problems children with learning disabilities face in elementary school. When parents, teachers and other adults work together to coach children on these skills, children become more confident and enter social situations anticipating success.
