About LDW®

Learning Disabilities Worldwide, Inc. (LDW®), established in 1965, is the premier international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational outcomes for individuals with learning disabilities (LD) and other related disorders. LDW® members include world-renowned experts and scholars, preservice teachers, general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, team coaches, clinicians, consultants, administrators, medical and mental health professionals, and parents and families of individuals with learning disabilities.

LDW® publishes two peer-reviewed, scientifically-based journals that are multidisciplinary in nature focusing on empirical studies, reviews of the literature, policy issues, and advocacy relevant to the field of learning disabilities. Our premier scientific journal, Learning Disabilities: A Contemporary Journal has an acceptance rate of approximately 6-10 percent* and is sent to over 24,000 subscribers around the world. Its sister journal, Insights on Learning Disabilities: From Prevailing Theories to Validated Practices has an acceptance rate of 30 percent* and reaches over 4,000 subscribers.

LDW® continues to engage in the professional development and dissemination of scholarly works and evidence-based practices to promote and enhance the success of ALL individuals with learning disabilities. We provide a unique opportunity for academic scholars, both in the United States and abroad, to exchange ideas and research opportunities to better the quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities around the world.

Mission Statement
Learning Disabilities Worldwide (LDW®) works to enhance the lives of individuals with learning disabilities, with a special emphasis on the underserved. Our purpose is to identify and support the unrecognized strengths and capabilities of persons with learning disabilities. We strive to increase awareness and understanding of learning disabilities through our multilingual media productions and publications that serve populations across cultures and nations. Our educational enrichment programs are designed to serve individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and the professionals in their lives.

Vision Statement
Learning Disabilities Worldwide (LDW®) envisions a world where learning disabilities (LD) are universally understood, accepted, and effectively addressed. We work to create a world where all persons with LD are supported in their endeavors and feel empowered to achieve their maximum potential in their academic careers, workplace, and personal development.

What We Do
Promote and distribute research.

Promote prevention, early identification, early intervention, and advocacy for civil rights of individuals with LD.
  • Offer to parents and professionals books on parenting children with LD, teaching children with LD, and living with a learning disability.
  • Offer to parents and professionals award-winning dvds/videos discussing parenting children with LD, teaching children with LD, rights of children with LD, and living with a learning disability.
  • Offer to physicians a CD and Booklet for pediatricians on learning disabilities and ADHD.
  • Offer to appropriate professionals teacher-training DVDs.
  • Publish ldyellowpages.org, a directory of learning disabilities services
Promote awareness of environmental issues that impact childhood development.
  • Publish and distribute articles on how environmental issues impact children to thousands of pediatricians.
  • Publish and distribute a CD on environmental hazards and learning disabilities for healthcare professionals.
  • Partner with the Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow and Clean Water Action in lobbying Congress.
Sponsor the LDW® Annual World Congress on Learning Disabilities.
  • Over 150 experts share current trends and research for parents and professionals at conferences attended by many countries.
  • Feature the World Symposium and Research Symposia.
  • Offer an abstract book and tape of sessions beginning fall 2006
